RENDMICRO regains its crown, followed by ASUS, ACER and HTC --
each of the top 4 has a brand value of over US$1.2 billion
The result of the 2008 Top Taiwan global brands survey has been announced on September 30th. TRENDMICRO wins this year with a slight victory over Asus, last year's champion, by only US$2 million worth of brand value. President Ma Ying-Jeou honors the award winners and emphasizes the importance of branding for Taiwan enterprises in his remark during the ceremony.
This survey is organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and co-organized by the BusinessNext and Interbrand. It is supported by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and sponsored by the Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The top two winners in the survey are TRENDMICRO and ASUS, followed by Acer and HTC. Each of these four brands has a brand value of over US$1.2 billion. Among the top 20 brands on the list are three newcomers - DANZE, MSI and BIOSTAR – creating some excitement for the relatively stable ranking. The Emerging Brand Award goes to LEADTEK.
TRENDMICRO’s brand is valued at US$1.326 billion (NT$41.77 billion) while ASUS’ is valued at US$1.324 billion (NT$41.683 billion). It's the first time for their brand values to surpass the threshold of US$1.3 billion. Acer comes third with a brand value of US$1.265 billion (NT$39.835 billion), while HTC wins fourth place with a brand value of US$1.202 billion (NT$37.858 billion).
MASTER KONG takes the fifth place, followed by MAXXIS (6th), D-LINK (7th), ZYXEL (8th), SYNNEX (9th) and ADVANTECH (10th).
The 11th to the 20th companies on the list are GIANT (11th), JOHNSON (12th), TRANSCEND (13th), UNI-PRESIDENT (14th), MERIDA (15th), DANZE (16th), GENIUS (17th), DEPO (18th), MSI (19th) and BIOSTAR (20th).
The combined value of Taiwan’s top 20 global brands reaches US$9.141 billion, the first time for it to surpass US$9 billion. Moreover, the total brand value of the top 10 brands grows to US$7.537 billion, an indication that Taiwanese enterprises are still able to expand their markets by enhancing their brand images even during a global recession. The increase of the total brand value is also a result of the Taiwan government’s "Branding Taiwan” project, which assists the promotion of Taiwanese brands globally.
There are three newcomers to the list. They are DANZE for home bathroom appliances, and MSI and BIOSTAR for motherboards. The winner of the Emerging Brand award, LEADTEK, has achieved an impressive performance in Europe. Bicycle manufacturer MERIDA shows a strong growth by growing its brand value over 70% for two consecutive years from 2007. Considering that energy saving will become an important global trend, it is expected that environment-related brands will continue to be solid performers.
Since 2003, the survey of Taiwan’s Top 10 Global Brands has been conducted for six consecutive years. Interbrand, a global branding consultancy, uses its well-established brand valuation methodology to prepare financial valuations of Taiwan’s international brands. The aforementioned methodology has also been applied to the Top 100 Global Brands report appointed by the Business Week. The brand valuation itself is comprised of qualitative and quantitative financial analyses to help effectively pinpoint the role of Taiwan’s brands in the global market.
